Together, But Never Touching

This is a photo of Abby's silhouette, a cut out of sunglasses, and my outstretched arm. In this photo, my index finger and Abby's index finger are touching, and she is facing my direction. The sunglasses are focused on her head. The photo follows the rule of thirds. This photo was shot for fun and is almost a commercial shot, trying to place emphasis on the sunglasses.

Sweeties

In this photo are two girls. One is Rhoda Sabatchi and the other is Abigail Evans. There is also one hand, my hand, holding two smarties. Rhoda and Abigail are standing next to each other and the smarties are covering their heads. The theme for this assignment was to cut off someone's head and replace it with an object, without the aid of photoshop. Shooting this photo was challenging because I needed to shoot the photo while simultaneously keeping my hand still in front of the camera. Maneuvering the camera and the hand to effectively cover the girls' heads with the two smarties was slightly difficult. I chose to shoot smarties to keep up with my theme of food. I also drew smiles on the smarties and told the girls to stand right next to each other to add warmth to the photo. I believe this photo is successful.

Missing Fruit

This is a photo of the peels of two oranges and one banana. They are set up to slightly imitate unpeeled fruit. The theme for this assignment was abhorrence which basically means: to branch off from something obvious. Since my study in photography, my senior exhibition, is focused on food, specifically desserts, I decided to use food for this assignment. In my mind, I believe people expect to see photos of whole foods. I.e. unpeeled fruits. So to diverge from this universal concept I chose to take photos of just the peels, but set them up in a way that they would emulate unpeeled fruits. I believe this photo is successful.

Pretty Birdie

This is a photo of a young girl named Christina gazing upwards at a pretty little birdie. It was a cold windy day that day so she decided to wear a nice warm parka jacket. She went on a walk and stumbled upon this beautiful bird perched upon a railing. Her eyes widened at the bird's beautiful feathers and a smile lit up on her face. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. At the same time, the bird stared at the humanoid form standing beneath him wondering why on earth she was staring at her with such big brown eyes. The purpose of this assignment was to broaden our perspective of things by shooting in an animal's p.o.v. This photo was taken on a sort of hilltop. I was standing on the tips of my toes behind a railing and Christina was standing a few feet down the hill to maximize the height and distance. This replicated the distance between ground level and a branch on a tree. This picture is successful.

Watching from Afar

This is a photo of Rhoda Sabatchi. She is standing in front of an enormous green bush. She's wearing a beige jacket, a white blouse, black jeans, brown boots and aviator sunglasses. The light is very bright and somewhat harsh. This shot was a commercial shot and my purpose was to create a fashion shot. She is positioned more towards one side of the photo to comply with the rule-of-thirds. The vivid green of the bush contrasts with her clothes and the darkness of her jeans and boots creates contrast against the bright white floor. My intentions for this photo was to make her look like a model posing for the camera to advertise her ensemble. I believe this photo is successful.

The Western Lights.

This is a photo shoot of Rhoda Sabatchi. The assignment was to shoot the same pose in six different lighting conditions. I chose to shoot this assignment with natural light. In the first photo the lighting condition is controlled natural light coming through an open door. The second photo is half shade and half natural light. The third photo is a full body scrim. The fourth photo is a half body scrim with natural light. The fifth photo is all natural light with a reflector. The sixth photo is complete shade. Rhoda is wearing a white halter dress with red floral designs. She is twirling a strand of hair in her finger and is standing in an aloof manner. I chose to pose her this way to bring out her femininity. I requested her to visualize "hot" men standing in front of her to induce a genuine smile and a dreamy expression on her face. I think this shoot was slightly successful because there needs to be a greater variation in lighting condition.

Burning House

There are two Holy Bibles, three bracelets, a wallet, a cellular phone and a set of keys in this photo and they represent items that I would, undoubtedly and without hesitation, grab if an imminent fire was devouring my neighbor's home and in the process of transitioning to my humble abode. The size of the pictures in the collage and the composition are not relative to the meaning of the overall piece. The majority of the objects displayed in this piece are important because they represent different aspects of life. My wallet is a storage for memorabilia, currency and memories. My cell phone is a means of contact and communication with those I love. My keys unlock the doors to some rooms in my home and the front doors, and the door to my beloved 2003 Infiniti G35. My bracelets are my identity. My bibles are my guiding light and my way to salvation. If my home was in danger of being consumed by a raging and relentless fire, I would unquestionably escape with these five objects. This photo is successful.
